For 91 days, Ilibagiza, along with seven other women ranging in age from 7 to 55, hid in a three-by-four-foot bathroom in the home of the Hutu neighbor. They were ordered to be absolutely silent and feared being found in the small four-bedroom home. At one point, Hutu militias came and searched the house but inexplicably did not enter the bathroom, despite touching the door handle.
